FILM WAVES 2024

The period film Waves, written and directed by Jiří Mádl, is inspired by the true story of a group of journalists from the international newsroom of Czechoslovak Radio and their unwavering determination to bring independent news at any cost.
The film has already attracted great attention at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it was rewarded with a record-breaking applause and the Práva Audience Award after its world premiere in the Grand Hall of the Thermal Hotel. After its first weekend, it was seen by 71,000 people in Czech cinemas and in the last days of 2024 it surpassed the 800,000 mark, making it the most successful Czech film of the year.

In addition, the Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) selected The Waves as the Czech Oscar nominee. It was among the 15 nominees in the international feature film category, but did not make it into the top five. However, the film did win the Satellite Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It also has great audience ratings to its credit, including a placement among the best films on CSFD.
We started working on the media image of Waves when we shot The Last Flap in November 2023. Gradually, we added media partnerships, social media and influencer marketing to the media relations. Together with the film's producer Monika Kristl and the distributor Bonton film, we brought Waves to the audience in a traditional PR campaign through a teaser, trailer and premiere, but also in non-traditional ways - a song and video clip by Ewa Farná, a screening of the film for 55 influncers or a film tour of the biggest Czech amphitheatres.
