In her novel Svatava, writer and art historian Jolanta Trojak connects the superficial world of show business with the world of mystics, academic painting with the uncontrollable creations of automatic painters, the world of intellect with the world of transcendence. The novel deals with the question of authenticity and emancipation, which in art are manifested by a move away from descriptive symbolism to non-objective abstraction, in fashion by the appropriation of trousers into a woman's wardrobe, and on a spiritual level by a return from fulfilling the needs of others back to oneself. This development is also noticeably written into the language of the narrative. The book is a synthesis of two storylines that differ not only in content but also in form.
